According to some versions of ancient Greek Mithology, Pegasus was a white winged horse that was honored by Zeus.
Pegasus later found a mate, Euippe, and had two offspring - Celeris and Melanippe. This family was at the origin of a new race of winged horses.
Pegasus was not immortal, but on the last day of his life Zeus transformed him into a constellation where we can still see him today.
Celeris, the swift colt, son (or brother according to other versions) of Pegasus was a gift from Mercury to Castor. As with Pegasus, Celeris was honored by being set in the celestial sphere under the constellation name Equuleus. |
